Monster concert
We are having a monster concert on Saturday, October 5 in the Ducrest/Gilfry Auditorium, UL Lafayette. We will utilize 5 concert grands and several digitals. Music will be played by our students, UL-MTNA Chapter members, UL class piano students and teachers!
There will be groups of 10-12 performers playing on 5+ pianos at the same time! We should have wonderful fun!
Technique Tournament

Student Fee $10.00 is due September, 20
Technique Tournament is a non-competitive event in which students are critiqued and rated on their technical skills. Scales, arpeggios and an etude are included on the required lists for six various levels. Students may enter at any level and repeat levels at the teacher’s discretion.
Students receive written criticism and certificate of proficiency. A special award is given to students who receive a Superior rating.

Congratulations to Mateo Atwi!
He won 3rd place in State piano competition on June 1st at Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond!
The best students from all over the state came to Hammond to compete. It was a tough decision for the judges to pick winners. Judge commented on Mateo’s performance as being the best Mozart’s style interpretation he has heard that day.
We all very proud of you, Mateo!
 
Congratulations to Emily Meaux!
She has been accepted to Ul-L as music major.
Emily started in the fall of 2002 at the age of 8 as a piano beginner. She was always passionate about music and was actively participating in recitals and competitions. She has great sight-reading skills and good knowledge of music theory.

Mateo will play at Louisiana Music Teachers Association’s state competition on June 1st at Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond. This competition is for students level PB and up who made 98 or above in Performance and a 94 or above in the other three parts at District rally.

Academy Pet of the Month
This month we are featuring piano student Andreas Atwi and his pet lamb!
This is what Andreas told us: “On March 15 my little lamb, Mouton Blanc, was born at noon. A little while later he was already frisking about and sucking milk vigorously. He is so clean and white now, but I’ll bet that soon he will rolling around in the hay and dirt and he won’t stay so shiny white. “

Family of the Month
Sarah Dishman is a 6th grader in the Louisiana on-line Charter Academy. Her hobbies include playing the piano and guitar, dancing, making jewelry, and keeping up with the latest fashion trends. Sarah also plays soccer, competing in several tournaments a year.
Her life’s motto is “Ooh, that’s cute!”
Layne Dishman is a 9th grade student at NISH. He enjoys playing multiple instruments such as the piano, 9 years, saxophone, 5 years, guitar and bassoon. He also enjoys playing video games like Zelda and listening to classical music. Layne has been in Gifted program for 5 years, and talent-music program for 6 years.
His family owns 2 dogs and 1 cat.
Haley is an 11th grade student at NISH who has many interests. She plays multiple instruments like the piano, flute, French horn, melllophone, guitar and melodics. She has been in dancing for 13 years and she enjoys many styles, especially tap and jazz. Haley is also in NISH chorus’s spring musical “The Wizard of Oz” where she will appear as Dorothy Gale in April.
Her most notable quote is “The cat is mine, Layne!”
